"NASA and Forest Service Collaborate to Distribute Moon Tree Seedlings, Promoting STEM Education"

NASA and the U.S. Forest Service are seeking education and community organizations to help grow a forest of trees with a unique pedigree - the moon. Seeds flown around the moon on NASA's Artemis I mission in 2022 will be used to plant seedlings of five different species of trees. This initiative, inspired by an Apollo astronaut, aims to establish a sustainable means of returning astronauts to the moon's surface and inspire the next generation of explorers. Schools, libraries, museums, and other organizations can apply for a moon tree seedling through NASA's Artifact Module, with the application period closing on October 6. By planting these Artemis moon trees, NASA aims to create new ways for communities to connect with space exploration.
