From Doorstop to History: The Unbelievable Journey of a Record-Setting Meteorite

A meteorite weighing 10 kilograms (22 pounds) that had been used as a doorstop on a Michigan farm for over 80 years was recently identified as a record-setting iron-nickel space rock. The owner of the farm, David Mazurek, had the rock examined by a geologist at Central Michigan University, who confirmed its authenticity. The meteorite, nicknamed the Edmore meteorite, contains about 12% nickel and was sold for $75,000. Mazurek plans to donate 10% of the proceeds to the university's Earth and atmospheric science department.
