The world's first confirmed dog-fox hybrid, named "dogxim" or "graxorra," has been discovered in Brazil. The animal, found in the wild after being hit by a car, exhibited physical characteristics and behaviors resembling both dogs and foxes. Genetic analysis revealed that the hybrid's mother was a pampas fox and its father was a domestic dog of an unknown breed. The dogxim had a medium-sized dog build, large pointy ears, a long snout, and a thick black-brown coat with white and grey specks. This discovery suggests that despite diverging around 6.7 million years ago, these species can still produce viable hybrids. Further research is needed to determine the fertility of these hybrids, and human activity increasing the overlap between pampas foxes and dogs may contribute to more instances of hybridization.
