Ukraine Faces Alarming Antibiotic Resistance Crisis

Researchers have discovered an alarming level of antibiotic resistance in bacteria from war-wounded patients in Ukraine, particularly in the Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria. The study, conducted by Lund University in Sweden and Ukrainian microbiologists, found high levels of resistance to broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents, including newly developed antibiotics. Some samples even contained bacteria resistant to "last-resort" antibiotics. The researchers emphasize the urgent need for international aid to address this grave concern, as the spread of resistant bacteria threatens the entire European region.
