Man Suffers from 'Groundhog Day' Syndrome

A man in his 80s with Alzheimer's disease experienced a rare complication called deja vecu with recollective confabulation (DVRC), which caused him to feel like he was reliving the same events. DVRC is a persistent perception that new encounters are repetitions of previous experiences and is sometimes seen in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. Brain scans highlighted unusually low activity in the left temporal lobe and the frontal lobes, with abnormalities being more pronounced on the right than on the left. The man was treated with a trial of immunotherapy, but this treatment was discontinued following a lack of clinical improvement.
