"Cutting-Edge Satellite to Accurately Monitor Industry Emissions from the Sky by 2024"

MethaneSAT, a satellite developed by the Environmental Defense Fund, is set to launch in 2024 and will accurately calculate methane emissions from oil and gas operations worldwide. The satellite's sensitive imaging spectrometer instruments have been successfully tested aboard a jet aircraft, which will augment the orbital data collection. MethaneSAT aims to provide detailed methane emissions information, allowing companies, countries, investors, and the public to identify, manage, and reduce emissions. The data will also help track progress towards climate goals and encourage methane mitigation. The satellite will join over two dozen other high-resolution methane detecting satellites in orbit by the end of this year.
