"2023: El Niño-Driven Global Sea Level Spike"

A NASA analysis shows that the El Niño phenomenon last year led to a significant spike in global sea levels, contributing about a third of an inch of additional rise between 2022 and 2023. This spike, on top of the accelerating sea level rise caused by warming oceans and melting glaciers due to human-induced global greenhouse gas emissions, is unprecedented. Climate scientist Josh Willis emphasized that the natural El Niño spike is occurring on top of the changes caused by human interference with the climate, leading to more powerful storms, higher tides, and increased flooding, serving as a reminder of the significant impact of human activity on the planet's climate.
