Revealing the Cosmic Surroundings of Emerging Stars

Astronomers have used the James Webb Space Telescope to capture stunning images of an interstellar jet emitted from a newly forming star. By comparing these images with archival data, researchers have gained new insights into the chemistry of the surrounding environment. The observations focused on Herbig-Haro 211, a powerful interstellar jet expelled from a spinning protostar in the Perseus cloud complex, located 321 parsecs away from Earth. These high-resolution infrared images provide detailed information about the material expelled from protostars, shedding light on the birth of stars and the dynamics of their surroundings.
