The Social Costs of AI Chatbots in Conversations

Cornell University researchers have found that using AI-enabled chat tools in conversations leads to more efficient and positive language use, and more positive perceptions of each other. However, when participants suspect their partner is using AI-suggested responses, they perceive them as less cooperative and feel less affiliation towards them. The study highlights the impact of AI on social dynamics and the unintended consequences that could result from integrating AI in social contexts.
