Multiple Tropical Waves Being Monitored by NHC for Potential Development in Atlantic Basin

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a new disturbance in the eastern Atlantic, along with four other tropical waves in the Atlantic basin. Environmental conditions are favorable for gradual development of the new disturbance, which is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa later today and early Friday. While it's too early to determine if there will be any impact to the U.S., forecasters are keeping an eye on waters surrounding Central America and southern Mexico during the third and fourth week of June. El Niño, which usually suppresses Atlantic hurricane activity, may not have as much of an impact this year due to record hot Atlantic water temperatures.
