Colleges sue to block federal plan to dismantle NCAR, the U.S.'s leading climate research center

A coalition of universities led by UCAR filed a federal lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s plan to break up the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), alleging a coordinated campaign against Colorado over political disputes. The suit accuses agencies of gag orders, cutting funding, and moving NCAR’s supercomputing facilities, arguing the actions violate the Administrative Procedure Act and threaten national security and the nation’s leadership in weather and space weather modeling and forecasting.
