California has partnered with nonprofit drug manufacturer Civica Rx to produce affordable, state-branded insulin to rival longtime producers and lower prices for millions of Americans. The partnership aims to be a "game changer" for the 8 million Americans who use insulin to treat diabetes, with a 10-milliliter vial selling for $30. The state-branded insulin could save many patients between $2,000 and $4,000 a year, according to state documents. The product is not expected to be on store shelves until at least next year.
