Wildfire Smoke Blankets Oregon, Triggering Air Quality Alerts and Excessive Heat Warnings

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Lane Regional Air Protection Agency have issued an air quality advisory for Deschutes, Lane, and Klamath counties due to thick smoke from wildfires, with much of the region experiencing "hazardous" levels. Intermittent smoke from other fires may also affect parts of Jackson, Josephine, eastern Douglas, and southeastern Linn counties. Smoke levels can change rapidly, and people are advised to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. High-efficiency air filters or purifiers are recommended, while cloth and surgical masks are ineffective. N95 or P100 respirators may offer protection but should be properly selected and worn.
