New Fungal Threats and White-Nose Syndrome Impacting North American Bats

A fungus called Pseudogymnoascus destructans caused white-nose disease, devastating North American bat populations since 2006, while European and Asian bats tolerate the fungus. Scientists have identified a new species of fungus in Europe and Asia that could pose an even greater threat to bats.
