Unpredictable Covid: Health Official's Warning

England's deputy chief medical officer, Dr Thomas Waite, warns that Covid-19 will continue to be unpredictable and urges eligible individuals to get vaccinated against both Covid-19 and the flu. Last year, the flu vaccine prevented 25,000 hospitalizations, but flu still caused over 14,000 excess deaths in England, while Covid-19 caused over 10,000. A new study by the UK Health Security Agency and the Office for National Statistics will collect data on infection levels this winter. The flu and Covid-19 vaccination programs began in September due to concerns over the new Covid variant. Dr Waite emphasizes the need for increased vaccine uptake, especially among children, pregnant women, and those at higher risk due to health conditions.
