Nigeria has become the first country to introduce a new 5-in-1 vaccine, Men5CV, against five strains of meningococcus bacteria, following a 50% increase in annual meningitis cases reported across Africa. The vaccine, funded by Gavi, offers broader protection than the current vaccine used in Africa and has the potential to significantly reduce meningitis cases.
