"Dangerous Trend: Risks of Cosmetic Surgery Tourism in the Dominican Republic"

Health experts are warning Americans against traveling to the Dominican Republic for cheap plastic surgery due to a surge in fatalities linked to botched operations, particularly liposuction, Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs), and Tummy Tucks. A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that nearly 100 Americans have died in the country over the last decade from these procedures, with the number of deaths more than tripling from 2019 to 2022. The Dominican Republic is considered one of the most dangerous places for plastic surgeries due to less regulation and a higher risk of infections. Additionally, a bungling south Florida plastic surgeon triggered a multi-state disease outbreak after failing to wash their equipment properly, leading to 19 patients being infected with an antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
