SpaceX Receives Approval for Direct-to-Cell Testing of Starlink
SpaceX is set to launch its Starlink 7-9 mission, which includes 21 satellites heading to low Earth orbit. This launch is unique as it features the first six Starlink satellites with direct-to-cell capabilities, allowing mobile network operators worldwide to provide seamless global access to texting, calling, and browsing. The launch is part of SpaceX's plan to launch approximately 840 direct-to-cell capable satellites over the next six months, with the aim of delivering commercial service in 2024. The direct-to-cell service will eliminate dead zones and provide connectivity even in remote areas. SpaceX has partnered with companies in several countries, including the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and Switzerland.
