Lead Contamination in Applesauce Linked to Illness in Wisconsin Children

At least three children in Wisconsin are suspected to have fallen ill after consuming applesauce contaminated with high levels of lead. Several brands of cinnamon applesauce pouches have been recalled since late October due to the presence of lead, which is believed to have caused lead poisoning in at least 64 children nationwide. The recalled products include WanaBana, Schnucks, and Weis brands. Wisconsin health officials are urging people to discard the recalled applesauce and have their children tested for lead exposure. The U.S. FDA is investigating cinnamon from Ecuador as the potential source of the lead contamination.
