Lead Contamination Crisis: Applesauce Brands and Ecuadorian Plant Under Investigation

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is investigating three suspected cases of lead poisoning linked to certain brands of applesauce, including WanaBana, Schnucks, and Weis. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for these brands, as they may contain harmful levels of lead. Consumers and food retailers are urged to dispose of the recalled products, which were sold at various stores including Amazon, Dollar Tree, Schnucks, Eatwell Markets, and Weis grocery stores. Lead poisoning is a concern when a child's blood lead level measures greater than or equal to 3.5 micrograms per deciliter (µg/dL).
