FDA advisers to vote on omicron-targeted fall Covid-19 boosters.

The FDA advisory committee will vote on the composition of updated Covid-19 vaccines that are expected to roll out in the fall, with available evidence suggesting that the new vaccine should protect against just one strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and should target one of three that are currently circulating in the US. The FDA appears set to follow international guidance and remove the ancestral spike in future vaccines, which would keep it in step with the World Health Organization's advisory group's recommendation. Vaccine manufacturers Pfizer, Moderna, and Novavax have been working on updated versions of the vaccines, even manufacturing them in advance, and are each scheduled to present at the FDA advisory meeting.
