FDA Cracks Down on Sale of Popular Disposable E-Cigarette

The FDA has issued warning letters to 189 retailers selling fruit- and candy-flavored disposable e-cigarettes, including the best-selling brand, Elf Bar, as part of its efforts to crack down on illegal disposable vapes that appeal to teenagers. The FDA has been trying to regulate the multibillion-dollar vaping industry for years, but unauthorized e-cigarettes continue to launch. The rise in unauthorized e-cigarettes coincided with the growing popularity of disposable e-cigarettes, which accounted for nearly 52% of vaping sales by late last year. Reports of nicotine poisoning have gone up and down over the past decade, but government scientists said calls increased more than 30% between last spring and March this year.
