
"Stunning Astrophotography Takes Center Stage in Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2023"
The Royal Observatory Greenwich has announced the winners of the 2023 Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition. The overall winner is an image titled "Andromeda, Unexpected," which showcases the Andromeda Galaxy and a plasma arc. Other winning images include views of the aurora, the Running Chicken Nebula, the Moon occulting Mars, the Sun with a filament in the shape of a question mark, a ship stranded off the Skeleton Coast, and Venus. The competition received over 4,000 entries from 64 countries, and the winning images will be exhibited at the National Maritime Museum in London.
