Intel has announced its next-generation Clearwater Forest Xeon CPUs, built on the 18A process node, featuring up to 288 cores across 12 chiplets, with significant improvements in performance, power efficiency, and memory bandwidth, targeting high-density and scale-out server workloads.
Intel's new Xeon 6700E series, particularly the Sierra Forest model, marks a significant shift in their Xeon lineup with 144 efficient cores, DDR5 support, and PCIe Gen5 in a 250W TDP. These E-cores, lacking Hyper-Threading, are designed to transition legacy workloads efficiently without changing architectures. The launch signifies a move towards higher density and power efficiency, setting the stage for future advancements like the anticipated Clearwater Forest.
The leaked specs for Intel's upcoming Xeon W3500 and W2500 series, part of the Sapphire Rapids Refresh lineup, reveal increased core counts, L3 cache, and TDP compared to their predecessors. The top-tier Xeon W9-3595X is set to feature 60 cores, while the W2500 series will offer SKUs with 26, 22, 18, and 14 cores, all with overclocking support and quad-channel memory. These new workstation CPUs are expected to be more budget-friendly, with exact pricing pending confirmation from Intel.
Intel's upcoming 6th Gen Xeon series, codenamed "Granite Rapids," is set to feature a significant increase in L3 cache, with expectations for 480MB, signaling Intel's effort to stay competitive with AMD's EPYC series. Intel's upcoming Xeon platform, Avenue City, will support the next-gen Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest data-center CPUs, and may launch with 500W TDP CPUs. The platform will feature faster DDR5 memory and up to 6400 MT/s in 1SPC/1DPC configuration. The validation platform for these Xeon series has been named Avenue City RP, which has a 20 layer PCB design with a 16.7×20 inch design and two sockets with a total of 24 memories DDR5 slots. The platform is set to launch next year.
