"Australians Embrace Love and Democracy in Historic Voice Referendum"
Australians are voting in a referendum to recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and create a body called the Voice to Parliament, which would advise the government on matters affecting Indigenous people. Polls indicate a likely defeat for the Yes campaign, with the No camp leading by 18 points. The referendum requires a majority Yes vote nationwide and in at least four of six states to pass. If the referendum fails, there will be no change in the constitution or policy governing Indigenous affairs. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has urged Australians to "choose love" and respect for their fellow citizens.
