YouTube is introducing new GenAI-powered features to its Shorts platform, including photo-to-video creation, AI effects like underwater visuals, doodle transformations, and an AI Playground for generating videos and music from prompts, initially powered by Veo 2 and soon upgraded to Veo 3, available in select countries.
Google Photos is introducing 12 new video effects, including Dust mix, Paper tear, B&W film, Lomo, Light leak, Film mood, Chromatic, Fish eye, Vintage, Layouts, Retro film, and Poster. These effects can be easily applied to videos with a single tap, allowing users to enhance their clips. The update is currently rolling out to Pixel owners and Google One subscribers, while the Google Photos app on Chromebooks has also received an overhaul.
Google Photos is reportedly working on a new Video Unblur tool that will use machine learning to sharpen videos, following the success of its Photo Unblur tool. The tool is expected to be a Pixel series exclusive and may debut on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Additionally, Google Photos is preparing a set of 14 video effects that can be applied to videos, which will appear in a new "Overlays" tab when editing a video in the app.
