"Decades-Old Canned Salmon Unveils Surprising Insights into Ocean Health"

Researchers from the University of Washington have discovered a unique ecological archive in expired cans of salmon dating back to the 1970s, containing well-preserved marine parasites called anisakids. By dissecting the salmon fillets, they found that the number of worms per gram of salmon had increased over time in certain salmon species, indicating the stability and recovery of the ecosystem. This accidental discovery could lead to further scientific insights and was published in Ecology and Evolution.
