$14M settlement reached in heat-related death of student athlete.

The University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky has agreed to pay $14m to the family of Grant Brace, a wrestler who died of heat stroke during training after being denied water by coaches. The lawsuit claimed that two coaches created an "atmosphere of fear and intimidation" on the team and mocked Brace when he asked for water. The university said it could have defeated the lawsuit but chose to settle to give the Brace family closure. The university will also participate in a heat-illness awareness training programme and help raise awareness for heat-related injuries.

Kentucky school reaches $14M settlement in wrestler's heat-related death.

The University of the Cumberlands has agreed to pay over $14 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of wrestler Grant Brace, who died of exertional heat stroke after a workout on campus. The university has also agreed to participate in a training program and awareness campaign regarding the prevention of heat-related illnesses. Brace's family alleged that the university and its wrestling coaches were negligent in the events leading up to their son's death. The family has since worked with the Korey Stringer Institute to develop the "B.R.A.C.E. Protocol," which will be implemented at Brace's school and promoted at other schools across the country.
