$14M settlement reached in heat-related death of student athlete.
The University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky has agreed to pay $14m to the family of Grant Brace, a wrestler who died of heat stroke during training after being denied water by coaches. The lawsuit claimed that two coaches created an "atmosphere of fear and intimidation" on the team and mocked Brace when he asked for water. The university said it could have defeated the lawsuit but chose to settle to give the Brace family closure. The university will also participate in a heat-illness awareness training programme and help raise awareness for heat-related injuries.
