"First Turbine Shipped from New Bedford as Inter-Array Cable Laying Begins at US Offshore Wind Farm"
Vineyard Wind, the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the US, has shipped out its first GE Haliade-X Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) from New Bedford to its home location over 30 miles from Cape Cod. The transportation of the turbine components over open water is a significant milestone for the offshore wind industry. Vineyard Wind aims to power over 400,000 homes and businesses in Massachusetts, generate 3,600 jobs, save consumers $1.4 billion over 20 years, and reduce carbon emissions by 1.6 million metric tons per year.
