Bosch invests $1.5B to acquire TSI Semiconductors and expand EV chip output.

Bosch has agreed to acquire key assets of TSI Semiconductors and invest $1.5 billion to expand US production of silicon carbide chips for electric vehicles. The TSI facility will become the "third pillar" of in-house semiconductor production, along with two sites in Germany. Bosch plans to retool TSI's chip production facilities in Roseville, California to start producing silicon carbide chips by 2026. The investment will be heavily dependent on federal funding opportunities through the CHIPS act as well as state subsidies.

Bosch is acquiring US chipmaker TSI Semiconductor and investing $1.5 billion to produce silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors to meet the growing demand for computer chips for electric vehicles (EVs). The investment will enable the adoption of EVs and strengthen the EV supply chain. Bosch expects to have an average of 25 of its chips in every new EV by 2025. The Biden administration's Invest in America agenda is promoting North American manufacturing and the adoption of sustainable transportation and clean energy in the US.

Bosch invests $1.5B in US chip production with TSI Semiconductors acquisition.

Bosch is set to acquire the assets of US chipmaker TSI Semiconductors to expand its semiconductor business with silicon carbide chips. The German engineering and technology giant will invest $1.5bn over the next few years to upgrade TSI Semiconductors’ manufacturing facilities in Roseville, California. The first chips will be produced on 200-millimeter wafers based on silicon carbide starting in 2026. SiCs have been a hot commodity among automakers, as they offer greater range and more efficient recharging for EVs. Bosch expects an average of 25 of its chips will be integrated in every new vehicle by 2025.
