Severe storms caused flooding and damage across the Piedmont Triad region in North Carolina over the weekend. Flash flood warnings were issued in Alamance and Guilford counties, with up to 4 inches of rain falling. Several Triad counties experienced severe thunderstorm warnings, a tornado warning, and flash flood warnings. Strong winds and hail caused damage to trees, cars, and homes, while fallen trees led to property damage and power outages affecting over 15,000 people in Greensboro. The full extent of the damages is still being assessed.
Over 15,000 people are without power in Greensboro, North Carolina, and several more are experiencing outages throughout the Triad region after severe thunderstorms hit the area. The majority of the outages are concentrated in Greensboro, with over 1,800 people affected in the Idle Acres area, 1,800+ near West Market Street, over 2,800 in the Battleground Avenue area, and over 5,000 in the North O Henry Boulevard area. Restoration times vary, and tree limb damage is a major cause of the outages.
The final line of storms for Saturday is moving through the Triad, with showers and occasional lightning strikes expected. Sunshine will return once the line of rain/storms moves further east. Sunday morning will be chilly with temperatures in the 40s, but sunshine will dominate throughout the day with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. An unsettled weather pattern takes over for the second half of the week with rain returning on Wednesday and continuing through Friday and Saturday.
