"Uncovering the Connection: Long COVID and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome"

A University of Otago study has found strong links between long COVID and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), suggesting a coordinated treatment strategy could benefit patients with both conditions. The research, published in Scientific Reports, revealed that the immune system activity of long COVID patients one year after infection was similar to that of ME/CFS patients, indicating a chronic dysfunctional state. The study emphasizes the need for therapeutic targeting of immune response and inflammatory pathways to address the complex physiological dysfunction in both conditions.

"Breakthrough Treatment for Pancreatic Cancer Shows Promise in Extending Survival"

Scientists from Queen Mary University of London have discovered that targeting the molecule CD73 can hinder the harmful activity of amoeboid cells, which promote the spread of pancreatic cancer and weaken the immune system. This finding offers a promising new approach for treating pancreatic cancer, which has low survival rates. Blocking CD73 reduced the spread of cancer to the liver and decreased the number of immune cells supporting the tumor in mice. While further research is needed in humans, drugs blocking CD73 are already being tested in clinical trials for various types of cancer.
