Winter Weather Update: Snowfall and Slick Conditions Expected in Iowa

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of central and southern Iowa as the state experiences its first snowfall of the season. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with isolated areas possibly receiving up to 4 inches. Road conditions are likely to become partially covered, leading to potential travel problems. Blowing snow is not expected, but temperatures will drop, causing the snow to stick. A warming trend is anticipated next week before another storm system brings rain.

Thanksgiving Travel Plans Disrupted by Snow and Thunderstorms

Severe weather, including thunderstorms, snow, and tornadoes, is expected to disrupt Thanksgiving week travel plans for millions of Americans. A powerful system moving eastward will bring heavy rain, strong winds, and severe storms to the eastern half of the country. Monday poses a significant risk for severe storms, with the potential for strong, long-track tornadoes after sunset. Heavy rain may cause travel delays in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. On Tuesday, the storm system will move eastward, bringing rain to the Mid-Atlantic and wintry precipitation to the interior Northeast. The Gulf Coast, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic will continue to experience strong to severe storms. Winter weather will also impact travel, with snowfall expected in Colorado and New England. Despite the challenging travel conditions, Thanksgiving Day itself is forecasted to be mostly dry and pleasant across the country.
