Apple's iOS 17.2 update for the iPhone 15 Pro introduces improved telephoto camera focusing speed, support for spatial video, and the new Journal app. The update enhances the focus speed when capturing small faraway objects on the 5x telephoto camera, as well as the 3x camera. Spatial videos are designed to look three-dimensional when viewed on the Apple Vision Pro headset. Users can check for the update in the Settings app and enable spatial video recording in the Camera settings.
Google's upcoming Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will continue the trend of giving the pricier phone an optical advantage, with the 8 Pro having an upgraded ultrawide camera using Sony's 64-megapixel IMX787 sensor. Both phones will share the same 50-megapixel Samsung Isocell GN2 primary sensor. The Pixel 8 will have a lesser ultrawide camera and no telephoto lens, while the 8 Pro's telephoto camera will be a 48-megapixel Samsung system capable of 5x optical zoom. The Pixel 8 series may also debut Google's Magic Editor tool for AI-based photo editing.
