China has blacklisted TechInsights, a Canadian research firm that exposed Huawei's AI chip secrets and reliance on foreign components, citing activities deemed against China's interests, including alleged military-technical cooperation with Taiwan and malicious remarks. This move restricts TechInsights from doing business in China and adds other foreign entities to China's Unreliable Entity list.
TechInsights predicts that Huawei's HarmonyOS will overtake Apple's iOS to become the second most popular smartphone operating system in China by 2024. This growth is attributed to Huawei's resurgence in the 5G market with devices like the Mate 60 Pro, despite US sanctions. HarmonyOS, which powers all Huawei smartphones, is expected to see increased adoption and will launch HarmonyOS Next in 2024, a version that won't support Android apps. Huawei is collaborating with major Chinese companies to develop native apps for the platform, and more than 700 million devices currently use HarmonyOS.
