Ancient Texas Fossils Reveal New Giant Marsupial Species
A new species of metatherian mammal, Swaindelphys solastella, was discovered in the Black Peaks Formation of west Texas, dating back to the Paleocene epoch about 60 million years ago. It was larger than other species of its genus and is the largest Paleocene metatherian found in North America, providing insights into early mammalian biogeography and paleoenvironmental conditions.
