Chemical release at Texas City refinery prompts shelter-in-place, order lifted after Marathon refinery incident
A shelter-in-place has been issued for residents in Texas City, Texas, following a temporary increase in sulfur dioxide emissions at the Marathon Galveston Bay Refinery. The city advised residents to remain indoors with doors and windows closed, and to turn off heating or air conditioning. The affected roads have been barricaded, and traffic is not allowed through. No injuries have been reported, and air monitoring readings currently indicate no danger to life or health. Marathon Petroleum Corp. stated that personnel are responding to the operational upset and that safety is their top priority.
