Son's 40-year-old design for astronaut dad's mission patch finally produced.

A sketch made by astronaut Mike Mullane's son for his father's mission patch 40 years ago has been turned into a new embroidered emblem to raise funds for Taking Up Space, a nonprofit that underwrites trips for Native American girls to attend Space Camp. The patch is part of Space Hipsters' Signature Edition space patch series and features Mullane's autograph. The design incorporates 12 stars, which in part follow the constellation Vela, the sail of the Argo, in keeping with the nautical exploration theme. The patches are priced at $75 for each gold edition, $50 for silver and $15 for the open edition.
