Storm Pia's Powerful Winds Challenge Planes in UK Landings
Storm Pia brought strong winds to parts of England, causing havoc at airports including Manchester. Video footage shows two jets attempting to land amid wind gusts of 40-50 mph, but both had to abort their landings due to dramatic wobbles caused by the gusts. Eleven flights were diverted to other local airports, and several trees were knocked down in Bolton. Northern England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland were placed under a yellow-level wind warning, with gusts reaching up to 115 mph at Scotland's Cairn Gorm Summit.
