Getty Images and Nvidia have expanded their AI partnership to introduce Generative AI by iStock, a text-to-image platform aimed at providing stock photos for individual and small to medium businesses. Trained using Nvidia’s Picasso model, the platform allows users to efficiently generate precise photos they need, with pricing set at $14.99 for 100 prompts. Unlike Getty’s AI platform, iStock's service will have a legal indemnity cap of $10,000 per asset and will soon offer Inpainting and Outpainting features.
Boing Boing co-founder Cory Doctorow is making public domain images available for free on Wikimedia by finding the originals, cleaning up the scans, and uploading them. This counters the practice of stock image libraries such as Getty Images charging for public domain works. Doctorow locates hi-rez PDF scans of the original works, cleans them up, and uploads them to Wikimedia Commons so others can use them without repeating the labor.
