ChargePoint's stock rose after the company announced it will adopt Tesla's EV charging plug, signaling a win in the standards war. Other EV charging stocks also rallied in response to the news.
Ford and General Motors' recent deals to adapt their EVs to use Tesla's Supercharger experience have upended the electric vehicle charging landscape, causing a potential standards war for a decade. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure standards require each DCFC port to have a Combined Charging System (CCS) Type 1 connector, but the recent deals mean that by volume, the overwhelming majority of new EVs in the US will use Tesla's North American Charging Standard. This could lead to higher costs for consumers as companies may need to implement both cables in both standards and test with both types of vehicles.
