Google Domains to be Shut Down, Assets Acquired by Squarespace

Google is selling its registrar business, Google Domains, to Squarespace, which includes handing off 10 million domains owned by Google customers. The deal makes Squarespace the exclusive domain provider for Google Workspace customers for the next three years. Squarespace acquires Google Domains assets for $180 million.

Squarespace has agreed to acquire all assets of Google Domains, including approximately 10 million domains, with the transaction expected to close by Q3 2023. Squarespace is a Google Workspace reseller and will become the exclusive domains provider for any customer purchasing a domain along with their Workspace subscription from Google directly for a minimum of three years. Squarespace will also provide billing and support services to Google Workspace customers that signed up for the service through Google Domains. The acquisition will add about ten million more customers to Squarespace's domain registration business.
