The Dangers of Soy Lecithin and Inflamed Colon
A study conducted by researchers at UC Riverside has found that excessive consumption of linoleic acid, a component of soybean oil, may be linked to digestive issues such as irritable bowel diseases and a leaky gut. The study showed that linoleic acid decreases the expression of a protein that maintains the integrity of the intestinal barrier and alters the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut microbiome. The researchers recommend reading food labels to avoid products containing soybean oil, reducing consumption of processed and fried foods, and opting for healthier alternatives like olive, avocado, or coconut oil.
