NASA successfully conducted a test of the RS-25 engine for the Space Launch System (SLS) megarocket at the Stennis Space Center, aiming to certify a variant for future moon missions under the Artemis program. The test is part of a 12-test series to prepare for the Artemis 5 mission, planned for 2029. The Artemis program seeks to land astronauts on the moon, with Artemis 1 already completed and Artemis 2 planning to send astronauts around the moon. The RS-25 engines for Artemis 5 and later missions will have additional thrust, and the tests aim to bring the engine's thrust up to 113% power for operational safety.
