Trump vows sweeping executive order to fix NIL-driven college sports shakeup
Trump pledged to issue an executive order within a week to “fix” what he calls a NIL-related mess in college sports, tying it to the House v. NCAA settlement that allows direct payments to athletes. He acknowledged lawsuits but hoped a judge would back the order. The Saving College Sports Roundtable at the White House, attended by NCAA chief Charlie Baker, Nick Saban, Ron DeSantis and Mike Johnson, did not include student-athletes. Lawmakers are pushing the SCORE Act to preempt state NIL rules, while a federal judge previously approved a settlement permitting up to $20.5 million per year for direct payments, largely benefiting football and basketball.
