California Residents Arrested for Bear Costume Insurance Fraud Scheme
Four individuals in Southern California were arrested for insurance fraud after staging car damage incidents using a person in a bear costume to simulate bear attacks. The suspects submitted false claims for damage to luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce and two Mercedes models, costing insurance companies $141,839. The scheme was uncovered when investigators determined the 'bear' in the submitted videos was actually a person in a costume. Charges are pending review by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
