UPMC medical facilities will require all employees, patients, and visitors to wear masks starting Wednesday due to an increase in RSV cases, as well as influenza A and B. The hospital system will continue to monitor the situation and adjust protocols accordingly.
Flu activity has increased from moderate to high in New Jersey, along with rising cases of COVID-19 and RSV across the country. The CDC recommends wearing masks and getting vaccinated against COVID-19, flu, and RSV. Flu cases have been on the rise nationally, with the most frequently reported strain being A(H1N1). Four children have died from the flu, bringing the season's total to 12. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 have also increased by 10% nationally. RSV cases have been steadily climbing since mid-September. The CDC advises taking precautions such as avoiding sick individuals, washing hands, improving ventilation, and staying home when sick.
