The University of Derby is leading a £1.2m study to test whether the anti-viral drug remdesivir can cure people with "long Covid". The nine-month trial involves about 100 participants who have experienced long Covid symptoms for over two years. Long Covid symptoms include extreme fatigue, breathlessness, palpitations, and brain fog. The study aims to shed light on potential treatments for long Covid, as there are currently no confirmed treatments available. Participants will undergo tests before and after receiving remdesivir to monitor improvements, including exercise tolerability and body scans to assess inflammation reduction. If successful, a larger study may be conducted next year to further understand how to manage the condition effectively.
