"Hidden Shark Nursery Discovered Near Miami's Glittering Cityscape"

Scientists believe they have discovered the first-ever nursery for great hammerhead sharks in Biscayne Bay, a busy fishing spot near Miami. The bay serves as a sheltered area for juvenile great hammerheads to feed on small fish during their first year of life. The discovery highlights the importance of protecting this habitat, as the population of great hammerheads has declined due to overfishing. Recreational fishing, in particular, poses a threat to these sharks, as they can suffer extreme shock when caught and released. Stricter protection measures are being called for in Biscayne Bay to ensure the survival of this unique shark species.

California Delays Dungeness Crab Season to Protect Whales

The commercial Dungeness crab fishing season in the Bay Area has been delayed until at least December 1 to protect migrating whales, as large aggregations of humpback whales continue to forage in the fishing zones. Rising ocean temperatures and shifting whale migration patterns have contributed to increased entanglements. The start date may be subject to change depending on the entanglement risks, with officials set to announce on November 17. Recreational fishing, limited to hoop nets and crab snares, will be allowed starting November 4.
