Amstel Gold Race director Leo van Vliet has denied that the lead organisation car had any effect on the outcome of the race, despite TV footage showing the car remaining close ahead of winner Tadej Pogačar immediately after overtaking him. Van Vliet insisted that the car had no choice but to spend a brief period of time in front of Pogačar for safety reasons. Pogačar recognised that the car had been too close but pointed out that the lead director’s car’s pulling ahead of a breakaway was the kind of manoeuvre that happens in all races.
The 2023 Milwaukee Marathon was canceled due to a blizzard that made the course conditions impossible to manage and update in a safe manner. This was the latest in a series of troubles for the event since its launch in 2015, including incorrect course measurements and a complete cancellation in 2018. The race had given just 49 days' notice that it was even going to happen, and the new race director, Chip Hazewski, hopes to bring the Milwaukee Marathon back in 2024 with the full 26.2 mile distance in the spring, along with the most popular distance, the half marathon.
